Painless Root Canal — Save Your Tooth.
Modern rotary endodontic treatment by Dr. K. Saritha. Complete infection removal, immediate pain relief, and tooth preservation — often in a single appointment.
Save Your Tooth. End the Pain.
Root canal treatment (also called endodontic therapy) removes infected or inflamed pulp tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and shapes the root canals, and seals the tooth to prevent reinfection. Contrary to its fearsome reputation, modern root canal treatment performed by an experienced dentist is no more uncomfortable than getting a regular filling.
The goal of root canal therapy is to save a tooth that would otherwise require extraction. At VCare, Dr. K. Saritha uses rotary endodontic instruments, apex locators, and digital X-rays to perform precise, single-appointment root canal procedures with exceptional success rates and minimal post-operative discomfort.
- ✓ Eliminates tooth pain caused by infection immediately
- ✓ Saves the natural tooth — avoids the cost of implants or bridges
- ✓ Stops infection from spreading to adjacent teeth and jaw
- ✓ Completed in 1–2 appointments in most cases
- ✓ Treated tooth can last a lifetime with a crown
When Is a Root Canal Needed?
These symptoms suggest the pulp inside your tooth is infected or irreversibly inflamed. Early treatment avoids more complex intervention.
Severe Toothache
Persistent, intense pain — especially pain that worsens when biting, chewing, or lying down — is the most common indicator of pulpal involvement requiring endodontic treatment.
Prolonged Sensitivity
Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers for more than 30 seconds after the stimulus is removed signals irreversible pulpitis — the nerve is dying and requires treatment.
Abscess / Pimple on Gum
A small bump or pimple on the gum near a tooth indicates a dental abscess — a pocket of infection at the tooth root that must be drained and the source treated.
Tooth Discolouration
A tooth that has turned grey, brown, or dark compared to its neighbours suggests internal bleeding or pulp necrosis (death of the nerve tissue) requiring endodontic care.
Swollen Jaw or Gum
Facial swelling, tender lymph nodes, or swollen gums near a specific tooth indicate spreading infection that requires urgent root canal and antibiotic therapy.
Deep Decay or Fracture
Extensive cavities that have reached the pulp chamber, or a fractured tooth with exposed nerve tissue, require root canal treatment to save the tooth structure.
What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?
Modern rotary instrumentation and apex locator technology make the procedure faster and more precise than ever.
Diagnosis & X-Ray
Digital X-rays and pulp vitality tests confirm the extent of infection. The affected tooth and surrounding bone are assessed thoroughly before treatment begins.
Anaesthesia
Local anaesthetic is administered to completely numb the tooth and surrounding area. You remain fully comfortable and awake throughout the entire procedure.
Pulp Removal
A rubber dam isolates the tooth. A small access cavity is created through the crown, and the infected pulp tissue is gently removed using fine endodontic files.
Canal Cleaning & Shaping
Rotary nickel-titanium instruments clean and shape the root canals to their full working length, confirmed by an electronic apex locator for precision.
Irrigation & Disinfection
Copious irrigation with sodium hypochlorite and EDTA dissolves organic debris and eliminates bacteria from the entire root canal system thoroughly.
Obturation & Crown
Canals are filled with gutta-percha and sealed. A porcelain crown is placed — ideally within 2 weeks — to protect the restored tooth from fracture long-term.
Root Canal — Common Questions Answered
This is the most common misconception. Root canal treatment relieves pain — it doesn't cause it. The procedure is performed under effective local anaesthesia, and most patients report that it feels similar to having a filling placed. The pain you feel before treatment (from the infection) is far worse than the procedure itself.
Most root canal treatments at VCare are completed in a single appointment of approximately 60–90 minutes. Complex cases — such as teeth with multiple curved canals, significant infection, or calcified canals — may require a second visit. Dr. Saritha will advise you at the outset.
Some tenderness for 2–3 days after treatment is normal and managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. You should return within 2 weeks for a porcelain crown, which protects the now-brittle root-canal-treated tooth from fracturing in the long run.
Saving your natural tooth is almost always the better long-term option. A missing tooth leads to bone loss, shifting of adjacent teeth, and requires more expensive replacement options (implant or bridge). Root canal treatment followed by a crown is typically more cost-effective and biologically superior.
